The railway line was extended from Thane to Kalyan (20 miles) after one year. From Kalyan, the railway line branched into two directions, viz. Northeast line leading to Igatpuri and Bhusaval and the line to the southeast of Pune and Solapur. Took 7 to 9 years for the construction of lines through the two ghat sections (Bhor and Thulin). Mountain barriers, which exceeded lines, only had a parallel in that moment in the history of railway construction - Semmering pass, in the Austrian Alps.
