The CISF was born in 1969 with a modest beginning, with three battalions, to ensure integrated security cover for public sector enterprises (PSUs), which in those years, occupied the "commanding heights" of the economy. In a span of four decades, the Group has grown several folds to reach one lakh twelve thousand staff today. With globalization and liberalization of the economy, CISF is no longer an organization focused on the power supply. Instead, the agency has become a multi-class security in the country, the mandate to ensure the safety of major critical infrastructure facilities in different areas of the country.
