Dibrugarh University, the easternmost of the University of India was established in 1965 under the provisions of Dibrugarh University Act, 1965 enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Assam. This is a teaching-cum-membership of the University of limited residential facilities. The University is located in Rajabheta at a distance of about five miles south of the main town of Dibrugarh in eastern Assam and India. Dibrugarh, a commercial and industrially advanced city in the northeastern region yet also has a unique place in the fields of Art, Literature and Culture.
