The institute was established in Kolkata (then Calcutta) by Padma Bhushan Prof. Boshi Sen late on July 4, 1924 and named as Vivekananda laboratory. The workshop will be moved permanently to Almora in 1936 and was carried out on donations and grants until it was delivered to the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1959. On October 1, 1974, took over and renamed ICAR Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan Parvatiyar Vivekananda.
