Originally established in 1905 at Pusa (Bihar) with financial assistance from an American philanthropist, Henry Phipps, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) began operating from New Delhi since 1936, when it was moved to its present site after an earthquake damaged large-scale building of the Institute of Pusa (Bihar). Institute traces popular name "Pusa Institute has its origins in the creation of the Pusa Institute.
