The National Institute for Plant Genome Research (formerly the National Center for Plant Genome Research) is an autonomous institution of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The Institute has been established to coincide with the 50th anniversary of independence of India and the birth anniversary of Professor Bose (Dr.) JC. The formal announcement was made on November 30, 1997. The Institute has already put India among the major contributors to plant genomics.
