Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), one of the most important laboratories in the family of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research was formally inaugurated on August 26, 1950 by Dr. Ray BC, the then head of government West Bengal, in the presence of eminent personalities: Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Dr. Prof. CV Raman, Meghnad Saha and Dr others. Dr. SS Bhatnagar was then Director General of CSIR while Dr. Atma Ram was Director of the Institute.
