The need to study the fundamental atmospheric problems and understand the mechanism of monsoon weather systems and climate-related processes in the tropical region, especially in the monsoon region, worsened by India in 1950, when the country program after Independence economic development was launched. Given this urgent need for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) at its Third Congress, recommended the establishment of meteorological research and training institutes in tropical countries.
