Acharya JC Bose founded the Institute in 1917, in order to investigate thoroughly "the large and growing openness of the problems of emerging science that includes both life and non life." Acharya Bose s early career included many wonderfully inventive and innovative experiments on electromagnetism, in JJ Thomson s words, marked "the dawn of the Renaissance in India, interest in research in the physical sciences, and community response plant and inorganic materials to electrical and mechanical stimuli. The first success was behind the stated purposes. Bose s successors remained faithful to that purpose.
